Research Focus
Aiming at advances in pulmonary imaging, disease, physiology, and mechanical ventilation
Tilo Winkler, PhD
Tilo Winkler | Department of Anesthesia
Dr. Winkler investigates fundamental problems in respiratory medicine, pulmonary imaging, critical care, and physiology. However, he focuses primarily on innovative, interdisciplinary approaches at the intersection of multiple fields to gain advanced insights. Dr. Winkler incorporates computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), computational analysis, respiratory physiology, lung diseases, and mathematical modeling in his studies. His most influential work characterized the complex, self-organized behavior of airways during asthma attacks.

"Imaging the Pulmonary Circulation to Aid Personalized Management of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome"
The goal of the proposed research is to use imaging to reveal the contribution of abnormal pulmonary perfusion to the progression of lung injury, as well as to develop strategies to attenuate ARDS severity by targeting pulmonary circulation.
